Ipe decking Origin

Our exceptional IPE comes from Brazil and is an example of quality and durability.

Ipe (Lapacho, Ironwood) decking Description

The Rolls Royce of timber decking, Ipe is popular for its characteristics and properties. Ipe is one of the hardest woods globally, which lends to its incredible durability and longevity. This hardwood decking is also naturally resistant to insect attack, mold, rot, fire and decay. Ipe is highly resistant to water. Ipe is considered the highest quality, and it is the best natural decking boards material.
The color of Ipe heartwood is a rich brown with red and amber hues and varies considerably from board to board. Ipe wood grain is extremely dense and tight, with visible cathedral arches and contrasting grain patterns throughout. Due to the wood's fine texture and interlocking grain, Ipe decking boards offer superior slip resistance.

So if you like symmetry and beauty like Merbau, we recommend Ipe to you as well.

Ipe decking boards treatment

If you decide to treat Ipe, we recommend OSMO Terrace oils in a selected color shade (colourless coat is recommended only for roofed terraces, for uncovered decks due to meagre resistance to UV radiation, the transparent coat is not recommended).

If you choose not to finish the deck, sunlight and water will create a gray patina. Graying occurs due to sunlight and water. The essential component of radiation that affects the graying of wood is UV radiation. Wood molecules absorb this radiation, and when exposed to water, a gray patina forms on the surface and into the depths of the wood. This gray patina will eventually become natural protection against further exposure to UV radiation.
