Garapa (Brazilian Ash) decking Description

Garapa is a high-density, highly durable hardwood ideal for use in exterior structures, including decks, wood siding, wood rain-screen and more. Garapa's beautiful golden tones will give your deck a warm, natural look. Garapa is beautiful, can handle heavy foot traffic, and offers a lighter colored decking material option for your deck. The lower cost of Garapa decking also makes it an affordable choice for a hardwood decking material. Garapa decking is a tough, dense wood with a soft-looking, satiny grain. Garapa wood decking is very strong, hard, and heavy, even though it has a lower density than other hardwoods like Ipe. The naturally high density and natural oils make Garapa resistant to termites and other insect attacks.

So if you like symmetry and beauty like Merbau, we recommend Garapa to you as well.

Garapa decking Treatment

If you decide to treat Garapa, we recommend OSMO Terrace oils in selected color shade, eg oil for Garapa no. 013. (transparent coating is not recommended due to meagre resistance to UV radiation)
If you decide not to apply the surface treatment, a gray patina will be created. Graying occurs due to sunlight and water. The essential component of radiation that affects the graying of wood is UV radiation. Wood molecules absorb this radiation, and when exposed to water, a gray patina forms on the surface and into the depths of the wood. This gray patina will eventually become natural protection against further exposure to UV radiation.
