Product Description

“Western Red Cedar,” in nature also known as “the tree of life.” Botanically “Thuja plicata” belongs to Cupressaceae. The area of spread of western red Cedar is the west part of North America from Alaska to California and east to Montana. Trunks can grow to a knotless height of 25m. The trees can reach up to 1000 years of age. The wood of western red Cedar is quite cold-resistant. The slow grown timber of western red cedar cladding is very light in weight, and it offers high stability and durability. Its uniform fine grain structure gives it good workability and hence is used for wood facades. The cedar wood cladding is highly resistant to decay, and therefore, there is no need for the treatment of timber.

Durability: For external uses, western red cedar is highly preferred by architecture due to its anti-resistance property for humidity, decaying, and insect-proof. Almost, it has a shelf life of 50-100 years or longer hence used for an outdoor purpose.

Western red cedar cladding surface finish is excellent and also maintained due it has a natural element named Thujaplicins and also several water-soluble substances that act as the preservative. Hence, it provides tension-free services for the number of years.

Stability: Western red cedar cladding provides high dimensional stability due to its low density and contraction factors. They are high resistance to an action of several forces on the move like twisting, warping, and checking does not result in any alteration in them.

Appearance: Whenever western red cedar is used, it provides the feeling of natural beauty and tenderness that cannot be achieved by using its alternatives like cement, plastic, or any other metals. Cedar wood cladding offers a beautiful surface finish form of a soft granular texture.

Color: sapwood is whitish and 2-5cm broad, core wood is reddish-brown to red-brown, often variable. The density of dried wood ranges depending on the width of the age-rings between 340-460 kg/m3. After drying, the wood has average dimensional stability, is comfortable and clean to work with, shows evenly smooth surface, easy to polish, and finishes. The moisture upon delivery is approx — 18-20 % for exterior flooring wood and 10-12% for facades. Cedar wood has been highly-priced even in ancient times. It contains resin that gives it its typical smell. The inner substances may leak out from areas of fresh cuts and cause coloring of the walls. Therefore, we recommend treating all cut edges with OSMO Wax for cut edges n. 5735. With Western Red Cedar in exterior constructions, it is essential to use non-corroding fastening means. Natural light greyness after almost half a year of exposure to weather is usual and doesn´t influence its quality and durability. Color differences between individual planks are typical and may be visible.

Wood desity: approx. 340 – 460 kg/m3.

Besides cladding, Western Red Cedar is also used for the formation of things like fencing, birdhouse, planter boxes, exterior siding, boat, boxes. Thanks to its property it is also used for making varieties of outdoor and indoor thing and protects from bug damage or any insect damage
